Another "trick" you might want to try once you do manage to get to Ishad N'ha and join the Thieves Guild (it is called the pawn shop and is sort of hidden behind some other buildings) -
Enter the guild and select the icon for training for another class (even if you don't actually want to change class yet). Rogues can train as Ninja and Bards at least - go check the other guilds and see who will now let you join and join up - you don't have to have completed the class quest - then go back to the thieves guild and cancel the class quest by clicking on it again. This works with any character class - guilds that otherwise would not accept them WILL if they are on a class quest that would allow them to join.
