I am not true veteran of this forum but I have been here since December and this is the first I have ever heard of this happening to anyone.
If you want to see if it was just due to a bad install, you can copy your Savegame folder away from the W&W folder and then uninstall the game...delete any remaining folders (within the original) and re-install.
Start a new game before copying your old savegame folder back into your new install to see if it doesn't happen again...if it doesn't but then does when you copy your old Savegame folder and open a game you have saved now, then those files are corrupt and (wince) you would have to start over.
