You need to be outside of the enterence. Go behind the bilding and to the top of the right tower and pull the lever. Make sure you save and head directly back to town. If you don't the gate has been know to raise back up and you will not ascend to your ninja roll untill you go back. Sometimes if your spawn frequency is high the demons will reset the bridge.
