1) BK: You can do it either way. Go to the options screen, and on "Game Speed" slide the control wherever you want it to be.

2) Welcome to the club!

We all fall for that one. Check the wall on the left of the small room. There's a lever there (in the darkness, no less!) that you can pull to open the door (load the dungeon, actually).
