Bungleau has said what I would have said but in a much more ala ella elquent better manner.
What nobody has said is that it is easier to levelup & thus to train when you are at lower levels. This means that it is worthwhile to change roles at an early stage if you have the cash to train in the guilds.
Another reason to change roles is to pick up a role that is covered by another guild so that you can join & train in more than 1 guild at a time.
If you are able to train in all guilds you charactor will progress much faster.
The things to remember before you change is to make sure that you get everything that you can out of the role first. You can not go back to that role after you have left it.
The barbarian role is an important one to get as many hitpoints as possible. You should try to become a barbarian early & stay for as long as possible to acrue the most hitpoints. Bungleau has an equation somewhere that proves this. If you have already been a level 20 at a role you dont benefit from being a barbarian until you pass that level 20.
This & all the previous posts have probably utterly confused you. Just remember that there are many "right" ways to advance your charactors.
