I haven't run into this in the past. As usual, the mystic mantra of "save early, save often, save before, save after" continues to hold true.

Try going back to the toadem grounds, touching the pole, and even resting. What the heck, it can't hurt. If you can't get through it though, like everyone has said, it's no great shakes. The spear isn't that good, the gold isn't that much, and the XP aren't that rare.
