I was about the same level and in about the same predicament you are at one point or another on my way there too.

Try running up on them and whacking them. If that doesn't help any, you can use your walk/run option to run the rest of the way if you are close and if you think you can outlive the attacks on your way.
(I did that entering Trynton and there were NPC's there who helped me take them out...you will meet a guy at the entrance to Arnika...can't say he won't run off though

Even so, there are patrols inside the city that won't let the foul plants live. [img]smile.gif[/img]

If all else fails, do go back to the monestary until your party members are at least all level 7, maybe 8.
That trip is not pretty and it only gets uglier! Offensive area spells and throwing weapons (cherry bombs, etc) do help and if your party members are that bad at throwing, use a few of your bonus points to help them out in that area on your next level-up...sometimes they just need a push.
