To find the Dark Savant in the swamp you need to get off the paths and find one of the many black patches on the ground (looks like a burnt spot like if you burnt a big patch of grass). These patches when stepped on will release a gas attack (like the coffin in the Lower Monastery) but the first time you get near to one of these the Dark Savant will show up & say some stuff then vanish & leave the fake A.D behind.
