It's really very simple: when a fighter (or someone with bloodlust) is berserk, they do an extra 1x damage on top of any strength modifiers. When your Lord gave up Bloodlust, he lost that extra 1x.
Like this: if with Bloodlust the damage rating is 10-40, then your Lord really does 20-80 in combat.
If with Ivory Blade the damage is 10-40, then 10-40 is all he does (except against immobile opponents).
