"No bids here," he says, after a petulant 'tut' from Karnas the mageblade sums up everything he could possibly think about the auctioning of swords in bars. "Mine's cursed."

The paladin contents himself with glugging his free drinks while goggling at the amount of cash being flaunted around the bar.

Karnas Thoth was once the name of a powerful member of the Red Wizards of Thay, and a self-declared servant of chaos and anarchy. Dedicated to causing as much mayhem as possible with his magical arts, Karnas frequented cities, villages and battlefields, destroying and meddling with the good and the evil alike. It was, perhaps, his mistake to mess with the affairs of the Order of the Radiant Heart - for he underestimated the Order's tendency to hold a grudge. When Karnas joined a battle in favour of the Ogre armiesof the Sithsyllian Empire, slaying two Paladins and one Squire with his powerful magic. A great member of the Order, Truori Foesmite, made it her quest to hunt him down; and, with three other agents of the law - Robwyn Scornal of the Cowled Wizards, Endreu Kranoel of the Shadow Thieves and Dawnpriest Saligos of Lathander - she eventually slew him. Aghast that Karnas' magics would eventually resurrect him as a Lich, Foesmite hit upon a desperate plan. Using Saligos' and Scornal's skills, they bound the soul of the wizard into Truori's own magical sword - until such time as its' occupant's point of view changed from mindlessly chaotic to lawful and good. Since that time, the sword - Karnas - has been wielded by the Foesmite family. The mage's powers prevent hostile magics from harming the bearer, while the sword's original combat enchantment still stands. However, one last quirk of the mage's magics still remains - the bearer of the sword has no choice but to use it in battle. Karnas will, quite literally, never leave its' wielder, and has to put up with the mage's strange chatter forever. The sword is currently wielded by Truori's great-grandson, Tancred Foesmite.
