Bruce, I don't know if you consider this an indecent proposal
but you could cheat the rope you need into the game via CluaConsole or Shadowkeeper. It's a length of golden rope I think, though I'm not sure about that. Anyway I'm suyre you'll be able to find it using SK or IE.
