Yes they've done this before. But I don't remember a heartly debate as most people either agreed or mumbled. Yes it is rather power gaming which I am not 100% for. But many novices are and they should remember mages can cause MASS DIRUPTION AND DISTRUCTION with their symbol spells and as you well know those area of effect spells. Dual classed or multi and they can use bows!
With stoneskin..etc. they can be immune to harm for the 1st few rounds of crucial battles.
I have three full mages in my team.
Does anyone have more? I am curious.
