what kit did you choose? as a mage class you get high alteration skills from the beginning and by using them thruout they gain even more.like my favorite spells to use that cost next to nil are mark and recall. saves lots of time and money.plus its good if you need to like get back to town in a hurry and at least you know where you are warping to. and not to mention even though the spell fails you still gain points in that class of spell.at about 45 and up the spell for me usually casts every time.9 outta 10 times anyways
