This is going to sound very bizarre, but... defrag your HDD.

I've also had the "Invalid Patch File" error, after a reinstall of the game, using the same patch that had previously worked, so I knew there was nothing wrong with the file.

After defragging the hard drive, so that the patch could actually replace the needed game files, the patch worked fine again.
