Vegemite/Marmite - I think the only people who like 'em have insensitive taste buds!
There was an experiment with babies in the UK recently to see if we all tasted the same things, and if different taste reactions related to obesity. The results apparently showed that babies who happily ate lemons and other strongly flavoured foods were more likely to become obese than babies with more sensitive taste reactions who rejected strong flavours with expressions of disgust. The experiment is continuing. I think the babies are about 2 now.
But whatever the end result, it is clear that some people are less and some more sensitive to taste than others.
Maybe you Australians have more taste insensitive people than other nations, lol!
