I imagine that anyone over 40 should get regular (6 month) checkups.

However, being that there are young people who get cancer as well, doing a self-test (breast examination, etc, looking for "lumps") is well-advised. Get your doctor to show you how to conduct this; you can do it in the shower or before you get ready for bed.

Personally, I'd say you were never too young to start. I'd rather be paranoid and alive, than "cool" and dead.
