I can't write code, but at least I can come up with ideas....
Alternative to the Specialist Mages: Focus Mages.
Focus Mages have the same 6 spells per level and chosen School of Magic that Specialist Mages do, but they make a whole lot more sense, roleplaying-wise. I'm so damn sick of the old "There are only 2 good spells in Divination, so Conjurer is the best" routine. Judging Mages by what their specialty isn't just never made sense to me.
FOCUS MAGES:
Advantages:
* Maximum of 6 spells per level
* Can learn spells from their Opposition School
Disadvantages:
* -50% chance to learn spells from their Opposition School
* The first 2 spellslots of each level may ONLY contain a spell from their chosen School.
So, a Focus Necromancer has 6 Level 5 spellslots: The first two slots can hold Animate Dead and nothing else, as it's the only Necromancy spell in Level 5. But he can put anything he wants to in the other 4 slots--even Shadow Door, if he managed to learn it.
This would bring Invokers, Enchanters, and Transmuters back into the game. If Conjurer really is the best class, it should be because Conjuration is the best School, not because Divination is the worst.
