I work in the IT industry and to be honest, I've seen a thousand computers turned off in this fashion without ill effects. It's the 2 or 3 that have completely stuffed up that cause me to always shut my computer down properly. Surely the small time it takes to shut down your computer is worth it to save the hours it takes to rebuild your system.
Oh well..if people are that lazy....I'll always have a job!
