I have to agree with you, Sir Kenyth.

For instance and in the same vein: I'm one who was raised around guns - all kinds (my Dad likes military weapons). I was raised to respect the power of handguns, rifles, whatever. My Dad let me shoot several types on a range when I was 12. I never 'played' with his weapons. And, above all, I never POINTED one at any living creature! He even reprimanded my younger cousin when he was about, oh, five - for pointing his FINGER at one of us and saying 'bang'. He has taken great responsiblity to ensure that none of 'us kids' grew up thinking guns were toys. He stressed that you NEVER point a gun at something unless you intend to kill it. This impressed upon my mind at a very young age.

As a direct result of this upbringing, I prefer to take at least some of my own safety into my own hands. I'd rather have a gun and not need it than be in a situation where I wish I had one. I pray I am never faced with the decision to kill someone in defense of my life, but I want that to be MY decision.
