Well, I can understand Turkey in this matter.

Allying themselves blatantly with the US in the effort to stamp out Saddam's Iraq might place them in quite a pickle.

IF the situation doesn't stabilise in Iraq after the fall of the present regime Turkey might find itself with hostile forces at it's borders.

Turkey is not an extremely wealthy nation and they can in no way afford americanesque military build-ups so they need the money to protect themselves.

Allying with USA might places Turkey in a very precarious situation and they want compensation for that!
