The question isn't whether or not a natural disaster, or the universe collapsing, etc, will destroy the planet. Its whether or not the human race will destroy
itself one day.
I agree, there is no way we can know the answer for certain, but we can definately get an inkling of what we are doing as a race. And we can certainly do something about it. Its like saying of the nuclear war threat in India and Pakistan: "They might fire it, who knows and who cares. We can't so anything about it". Well, some people can do something about it, and they are members of the human race as well.
Far from being powerless to stop its own actions the human race is the only thing with the power to stop itself destroying itself (ain't that a mouthful...).
