Default Keyboard and Mouse Combo.

Staples has the MS 4000 wireless KB & mouse combo on sale. I'm in need of new setup, but have always been wired.

Anybody here have any experience with this setup?

Wireless in general?

Battery life?

Type?

@ SW & EB, just general computing, more Word and .PPT than games. Digital photo is a hobby, so frame rates etc.. are not a concern.

Yeah, I love it as far as practicality go. You can take your keyboard anywhere in the room and type. No wires getting in your way, no lag, nothing. Batteries usually last quite long for me (months). Keyboard - Check.

Mouse, personally this is iffy for me. I realize you said fps and games are not an issue, but as far as any gaming in general goes, I still have not found a wireless mouse that can keep up with me. Now, I PVP online in MMO's and stuff so everything is "real time" and every single milisecond counts as far as mouse-read lag is concerned. From what I see you don't plan to do this, but it is worth mentioning if you ever change your mind. I personally stick with optical read come wired mouse as a happy medium.

For word, surfing, etc. a wireless mouse is fine. Given your stated desires, the more expensive wireless ones ($50+) are a waste of your money, as these attempt to address the mouse-lag I talk about above, and are frequently marketted as a "gaming" mouse but really you'd not notice the difference at all because the applications won't demand that level of precision and reaction. Battery life on my mouse is usually 2 months, but because it sees alot of use and overuse in gaming.

Experience with mouse: failing connections, too slow to keep up and short battery life.

I stick to cables, from my mouse to my internet connection.

I have a Logitech wireless set up and I do like it. The batteries in the keyboard last for years. The ones in the mouse last for months and when i do get the indicator, I just charge 'em over night.

I stopped using the mouse pad last week, because it was.. something, I don't know what to call it. It's directly on the desk now and running better.

I find the keys on the MS keyboards are always better than the Logitech ones. My Logitech combo was $130 (only paid $30 myself) but the keys are a little sticky, or chalky feeling.
