This is my second post and am new to BG1. How do I tell if an item is magical or not? I know it says to right click on the item; but, is that enough? What I mean is that if I pick up a ring or a sword, will it look different in the slot? Otherwise, I am really enjoying finding things out for myself. I also relly apreciate all the feedback on my last post and have learned a lot from reading all the previous messages. Thanks, be seeing you.

First, welcome to the board!
![]() Then, If you have Tales of the Sword Coast, magic items show up shaded blue in th box. If you don't have TOTSC, right click and if it is magic, there will be an option called Identify. this means it is magic. To Identify it, you have to have an Identify spell memorized or scroll. Some stores Identify also. Also, most magic items look a little different... ![]() ------------------ ![]() Sword Saint of the HADB Clan Waitress and entertainer at Cloudy's Cafe Lil' Angel ![]() |

An item is magic if:
It is shaded blue when you first find it, or It is a +1, (+2 etc.) weapon (ie. longsword +1 or Spiders Bane) It gives you a bonus or effect (ie. ring of protection which gives an AC bonus, ring of Free Action etc.) It has charges that you can use like a spell (ie. a wand, or amulet of missiles) If it has a long and complex description, or strange name!! Hope that helps, and welcome to Ironworks! ------------------ ![]() Time is an illusion. Lunchtime doubly so. If your mage is powerful enough then some magical items can be identified without using up an Identify spell. Things like arrows and bolts or a mage robe...the more powerful the item, the more likely that you will have to use an actual spell to identify it.

Yep, if your character's Lore rating is high enough he can identify some items just by looking at them. Bards are generally very good at this
