* * * * * * Yes, all your drow equipment will turn to dust once you reach the surface, so make sure to keep all your old equipment.

There IS a way to keep your drow stuff, from what I remember reading. I've never tried it but if you really wanna know the theory, I'll spill da beans.

here go da beans:
Keep in mind I've ever tried this, and I don't know why they only mention Jaheira as the person to use, but this is what the 'hint' said. When you're exiting the underdark, there's one particular screen that, once you reach it, all your equipment desintegrates. Make sure you save before you try to exit so that once you reach this screen, you know which one it is. Once you know which screen it is, reload, and one the screen before, give all the drow equipment to Jaheira (I'd assume this should work with anyone, but again, it only said Jaheira. Also, I understand that if you've completed a certain quest and kick her out of the party, she won't rejoin you. DO NOT do that quest, you need her able to rejoin you.) ANYWAY... give all the Drow stuff you wanna keep to Jaheira and kick her out of the party on the screen before the one which all your stuff turns to dust. Then leave the underdark, and go find her by the harper base, have her rejoin, and it should all be in her inventory. Not sure if it works if it's in a bag of holding or not, but it's worth a try. Reason this works is that the Drow stuff only turns to dust if you carry it through that ONE SCREEN... and as long as you never go back to that screen, you should be able to keep it all and have it never turn to dust. Again, I never tried this, and it's all from memory. And since I'm Polish, I may be forgetting something... but if anyone wants to try and let us know if it works or not... more power to ya.

It's always bothered me that Drow items inserted into the Bag of Holding will still disintegrate once you're on the surface. Isn't it supposed to be in another dimension or something? I wanted to pull out the Drow stuff and use it at night or when in a dungeon.

what if you exited the underdark while it was still night time? and went to an inn or something and put it back on?

Ummm, I dunno. I think anything carried through the exit still turns to dust... after all, moonlight is just sunlight reflected off the moon. Like I said tho, I've never played with it that much since I never even tried the Drow stuff on... I didn't want to get spoiled and have the trick not work. The whole trick is not having the equipment on you when you go through the one screen where it goes *poof*. Once you're past there and get it back... it should be ok. I guess Jeheira gets an idea and just puts sunblock on the equipment after watching Blade at the Harper base...
Hey, if it works for vampires, it'll work for armor!

An extract from Arms & Eqipment Guide:
Whenever drow-alloyed creations, including armor, are exposed to direct sunlight, their magical bonuses are immediately lost and they begin to utterly and irreversibly decay. This happens even after one short exposure, meaning that even a set of drow armor that is immediately returned to utter darkness or the nearest drow homeland will still decay. Physical decay begins 1d12+8 days after exposure to sunlight. The armor completely falls apart after another 1d12 days have passed. If extraordinary precautions are taken, an adventurer could theoretically use a set of drow armor, if worn only in the dead of night and returned to complete darkness (e.g., a light-proof chest or vault) before the break of day. However, the armor must be returned to the drow homeland once every two weeks to be re-exposed to the radiation. Armor must remain in the homeland two days per day spent above ground. If the armor is not returned to the underdark before two weeks have passed, the magic of the armor is permanently lost. Decay then begins as described above. If you do the Jaheira trick, or Ferret trick, or pass-the-bag trick, or spawn it with console, remember that you don't cheat while following the precautions. Every two weeks, you have to bring the armor to Underdark and leave it there for a month. The clever thing to do is to sell several armours to Svirfnebli or Duergar merchant, and just bring one suit and take another. [ 03-04-2003, 03:45 AM: Message edited by: Vedran ]
