Mods:Tactics
Difficulty:Insane
Mission:Kill Big Red without reloads

Simple. My no-reloads party rocks!
Starring:
 • Korgan
 • Solaufein
 • Jan Jansen
 • Imoen
 • Viconia
 • PC-Archer-Ranger not Fighter

We are all about 14-17 levels and we are in Chapter six. So i read SixOfSpades` little walktrough how to kill a Dragon. So i put Korgan and Solaufein around Big Red. Each to his(own ) side. My Archer was standing a little to east of the battleground. Protection spells:Remove Fear,Chant,Heal,Project Image.

So we were ready and I prayed that my plan will work. I attacked and Sola was Wing Buffeted bit Korgan hit him.Good start. My Archer was really cool. Each hit was something around 20 dmg. Then bad things started to happen. He was using his mighty breath and wings. Imoen`s PI used the Rod Of Ressurection to Heal tanks. They were attacking and running around. Korgan had the Cloak Of Cheese so Dragon`s Breath was spell ineffevtive. Imoen also used Breaches to remove his pesky Stoneskins. So we were playing around like this most of the time and mighty Big Red was DOWN!

Notes:Remove Fear is absolutley one spell that you MUST HAVE to fight Dragons.
Biggie`s Breath is just like a Fireball(a really BIG one) so the spell was ineffective.
Always put your characters around the dragon.

This is it.

Edit:note to self. Next time play as an FArcher. Better damage.

Man, Xen, I thought you were cool once upon a time. Just make sure you use plenty of bubbles.

Good job on the dragon though!

I cant believe you guys actually fight dragons with them knowing it! Thats so cool! I just have all my mages use cloudkill-type spells targeted right next to where he is standing. (Just enough so he is not visible) By the time he starts to cast Heal the first time, he is taking so much damage that he dies before he can finish it. I take no damage, and I get the full XP without even talking to him! Ive done it to every dragon. But I suppose fighting it would be neat to...

Dude, you simply must fight the dragons fair and square. Honor and all... Seriously, though, where's the fun in cloudkilling them from off screen? I guess that's the essence of the cheese/cheat or no cheese/cheating debate.

All the monsters in SoA and ToB can be defeated without cheese or cheating, especially if they haven't been modded. Resist the urge to give up the fight -- ask for tips!

Just my opinion...

Well, in all seriousness Borg, it's not a cheesy tactic to use Cloudkill a dragon if he may have an advantage over you. As far as honor goes, I don't fight with honor with a creature that can kick my arse.

How often do you think a dragon would just sit by an let a party begin casting a spell inside their lair without reacting immediately? That's why I call it cheese and have seen the tactic referred to as such many times. Of course, I imagine the same argument could be made for casting protective spells and summons near a dragon and I have done that.

In the end, though, I still think you should do what you enjoy, and if you have fun with the game by using that tactic because you would otherwise be frustrated with the battle or for some other reason, then you should use it!

Boysboys, don't bicker and argue about who killed who...

The main point is, with such tactics, the dragon get's easy. That is not how many experienced players, like myself, want to play, we've played the game SO many times it is a piece of cake, so now, we want the challenge! We seek the extra hardness by going up on a dragon frontal! Using OTHER tactics than the easy stuff we are used to.

Last time, I used a mage to use tactics (Time Stop, Spell Trigger, Lower Resistance, ed.) to kill it. That was quite hard, but not enough! So enxt time, I too will be meleeing the dragons.
