Question about my party (spoilers)

Okay, I'm finally in the Spellhold and am about to fight Bhaal. I know I can't change anything about my party now, but later, I've heard you can pick up Imoen. So, what do you think I should do with my party? This is my first time playing the game, so I'm not entirely familiar with all of the characters' potential. Here's what I have so far:

me (Mage)
Minsc
Anomen
Mazzy
Jan
Jaheira

I think I'll keep Minsc because he kills me and Anomen because he has some good spells and is a good fighter. I recently picked up Mazzy, but am not sure if I love her (she replaced Aerie). Who do you think I should replace? I was thinking Jan for Imoen, but am not positive, and Mazzy for Aerie again because of Aerie's spells and fighting ability (she rocks with the right weapon when necessary). Any ideas?

u say, that u have:

you (Mage)

Mazzy (fighter)
Jan (thief/illusionist)
Jaheira (fighter/druid)

from the list of yours,u got a bunch of fighters.i think u should somehow execute one of your fighters to get imoen to your party.my suggestion for u is to throw jaheira.since, u need anomen for a priest, and mazzy + minsc are good fighters.

but u said that u wanted to substitute mazzy with aerie.so yer party will be:

you (Mage)
Minsc (fighter)
Anomen (fighter/cleric)
Aerie (mage/cleric)
Jan (thief/illusionist)
Jaheira (fighter/druid)

we can see, that u got 3 mages there.and there will be another mage (imoen) makin' yer party full of mages.so i suggest u to throw out one of the mages.maybe jan, since u 'love' aerie, and protagonist cant be kicked.so after you kick jan out and welcome imoen, your party will be:

you (Mage)
Minsc (fighter)
Anomen (fighter/cleric)
Aerie (mage/cleric)
Imoen (mage/thief)
Jaheira (fighter/druid)

now u got 3 fighters,3 mages, 2 clerics,and 1 thief.quite a good combining.but its just me.

i'm playing a similar party for my first run through - i'm tempted to say leave yours how it is and don't take imoen but i reckon you pretty much have to for the first time through (i'm expecting plot-related action!)

the only reasonable swap i see for imoen is jan - when i lost my other thief at spellhold i missed him but i re-built minsc for stealth which is kind of OK

yeah, for the first run, I think you should take Imoen.

the other party combination you can consider is

PC (mage)
Mazzy
Minsc
Jaheira
Aerie
Imone

dropping Anomen because you have enough fighter fire power to go around (Minsc, Mazzy and Jaheira) and excellent spellcasters in PC and Aerie, and complmentary spell casters in Jaheira and Imone. If you give Mazzy the right equipment, she'll be one of the deadliest killers in the game; IMO Mazzy + Aerie > Anomen + either Mazzy or Aerie. Imone's theif skill is servicible for the rest of game.

Personally, I can't stand Anomen. The question is-how often does your party need healing? If it's not often, I recommend getting rid of either Jaheira or Anomen-Baldur's Gate II is very magic-oriontated and having mages is usually a good idea.

If you really want a good thief, you could keep Jan, but Imoen can usually handle most traps & locks by herself in my game, despite not being able to increase in level. Plus, she's a (dual-class) mage, meaning she'll get levels quicker than Jan.

Yes but Jan is sooo more versatile. And if you got ToB installed he can be a really powerful character.

yeah, thats another possible option.cause i think 1 cleric in the game is more than enough, and i also think that mazzy is a better fighter than anomen.

I can handle getting rid of Jaheira because her whining about her hubby is really getting on my nerves. I have a romance thing with Anomen going, so I want to see what happens, although there are time I'd like to kill the pain. [img]smile.gif[/img] I do like Jan, though, for the comic relief, and I have ToB, so if he's an interesting character there, I'll probably hang on to him.

One last question, since I have ToB, do I continuing playing with the expansion, or with SoA? I know when you get an expansion you usually just play with that, but I wasn't sure. I always just go with SoA.
