What's with the "spoiler" thing? i mean how many people are there who post in ironworksforum and haven't finished ToB (or got really close, but know how it ends)?

A spoiler is when you spoil some important part of the game such as the location of a certain item, or how to beat a certain enemy in the game. Every time you make such a spoil for someone else, make sure you indicate it is a spoiling post, because, quite frankly, they might not want to know about it

Quote from the Rules And Regulations,

Quote:
Warn before you Spoil: A spoiler is something that reveals information about a plot twist or the location of some object/character/hidden place in a game. Spoilers are by their nature subjective - you will need to use your judgment to determine what these are.

Many people in this forum talk about 'general' game issues, such as "What is the best party for whatever" or "Should I drop whoever from my group?". These types of posts usually don't require spoilers as they are general information. Other people might have specific game questions like "How do I get past so-and-so" or "Where is such-and-such". These would be considered posts requesting spoiler information. Some are obviously bigger spoilers than others.

There are also posts which refer to specific plot twists in the games here, A lot of people who come here do NOT know about certain plot twists which the rest of us might take for granted. Unmarked spoilers about these detract from these people's gaming experience. The majority of people don't like finding out about a plot twist before they were meant to. (Like someone telling you the ending of a movie before you see it)

As a courtesy to other board members who may not have gotten as far in the game as you have, please abide by the following when requesting or revealing spoiler information: Do NOT reveal the spoiler in your title. Put a SPOILER tag in the title so people know you will be revealing spoiler information. Put spoiler spaces just before the part where you are revealing the information.

A story.

Do you know how ToB ends? How much of a surprise ending it is? One simple word can blow that entire ending for somebody. Imagine how much of a letdown it is for someone who hasn't played ToB if someone posts that one word on the SoA board. Especially if it's without spoiler tags.

Yes, it happened to me.

I know the policy at Ironworks is that everyone is supposed to play nice in the sandbox, but things like that makes me wish this place had a "tough love" policy to deal with things like that...

But isn't one of the MAIN reasons that we use this board to be spoiled ?
Some new players to this game just keep asking all the time. They want to be spoiled.

If I have no questions I just play the game. When something bothers me then I go check the IW. Spoiling is the reason.

After a while (and playing many many times) I may write something for somebody that doesn't know something. But still my main reason for being here is to read something new - and that's spoiling stuff.

This is what all this is about - somebody is asking - and you have to read his mind not to spoil him but still to tell him. And it's gonna be wrong sometimes. So who's responsibility is it then ?

No one can read your mind. If you don't want to be spoiled then don't read this board. Sooner or later you will be spoiled - no matter what.

True, Leslie, we can't be expected to read people's minds here, so what *I* do is to make sure that, if I do err, I err on the side of moderation. For instance, suppose a newbie gamer just did the Skinner Murders quest, and they run down to the basement and find--their quarry has escaped. There's a couple dudes there to fight, but they guy that they're after is gone. The newbie panics: Did they take too long to get there? Did they do something wrong? Are they going to be punished for letting him get away? Have they screwed up something that could have horrendous implications down the line? Oh my God, what should they do???

I, reading a post like that, would give the person my reassurance that they didn't screw up, and that their target's escaping is an unavoidable occurrence. And being the kindhearted soul that I am, I would also provide them with the name of the Mage that teleported away.

A person who loves giving spoilers, however, would immediately launch into a fully detailed description of the Skin Dancer and Human Flesh quests, spoiling most of Chapter 5 in the process. *I* would only offer such details if the person specifically asked me, and probably not even then.

If the newbie needs a nudge, give them a nudge. Don't spoon-feed them or treat them as if they're incapable of figuring things out on their own. If they do it by themselves, it's better for them.....and if they can't do it by themselves, then it's better for us.
