I'm currently soloing a monk through BGT. If you want to read my story it's here
It's my first time as a monk so bear with me if I don't know some basics about his character developement.
I'm currently lvl6 which gives me 2ApR with my fists but I picked up a rather nice longsword recently (and I have * in Longswords) which would ontribute to my THAC0 and does some nice damage.
Alas I only get one attack with this blade. Will this stay this way or is my ApR going up with levels only slower for weapons than for fists. Or do I need ** in Longswords to get more than 1 ApR?
Can anyone give me a table or something for what exactly (save items, spells, potions) increases ApR?

Ah yes, the Monk. The first character that I beat the game with many moons ago. The Monk is still my favorite class. As far as ApR go, I can't remember well enought to give you specifics, but I do know that your ApR goes up when using your fists. I believe it hits 4 ApR at the Experience Cap.

As far as longswords (and other weapons) go, you will only get 1 ApR, ever. And you can only put 1 star in any weapon. If you have the bonus merchants installed, you can buy an very expensive Monk-only Wachazie (butchered the spelling) in the Copper Coronet. It gives you 2 ApR and a chance to poison the target (nice for Trolls). In my opinion, though, it is overpriced and Trolls seem to save vs the poison too many times for my liking. I prefered to buy the +3 club that does Acid damage from the guy at Trademeet (and until then, I buy a Longsword that does flame damage).

I would recommend going to the character screen and clicking on "Kit Description" at the bottom of the screen. It will give you all of the specifics about the Monk's ApR with his fists and at what level they are considered "magical". They start at "normal" and are eventually considered +1, then +2, and lastly +3 to hit.

SPOILER

This will cause you problems if you try to kill Kangaxx as you need a +4 magical weapon.

Also, in the Fish-City (can't remember the name), you can pick up a pair of gloves that give you +4 to hit and +4 to damage with fists (doesn't give you +4 to hit magical, though).

End SPOILER

Anyway, enjoy the Monk. It's not a powerhouse class like the Sorcerer, or Kensai (mage), but there is nothing more satisfying that seeing a dragon drop with one hit when he fails a save vs your Quivering Palm.

so this means ApR for weapons won't get better EVER?
I know about the fists, I read the kit description very thorougly before I started and check it every once in a while (when I want to excite myself about what I'll be getting with the next lvlup )
I merely thought it would be fun to use some swords some time but 1ApR is just too low. I know that there are some weapons later in SoA which provide you with +1ApR but currently I'm in BG1 and don't have access to them.

Umm...forgive my stupidity, but how are you playing a Monk through BG1?

Hmm, I just noticed that you said that you were playing through BGT. I am not familiar with BGT, is it a mod that allows you to play the classes from BG2 in BG1?

Not a powerhouse? He kicks fighter's asses after lvl13! Belay special abilities, he does MONSTEROUS damage, and with the help of magical items can get an AC of -10 easy enough. Also, his thaco+ApR gets high enough as well, using those special gloves, and AC boosting items, your Monk WILL be more damage dishing than your Kensai.

Deal more damage than the Kensai?

Now, now, Monks are powerful and all, but let us not exaggerate things.
