As in,,how does it work? For example:
1. You met Jan at PC L17....Jan will level to what?
2. You drop Jan at PC L20...go back to him at L27,,Jan will level again to match PC?

Are these questions even on base? Does the ToB "autoleveling" even occur in the SoA portion of the game? Or only in the ToB portion?

An epitome of this process is desired, because inquiring minds want to know. TIA

As far as I know, NPCs only "Auto-level" to you when you summon them from the Pocket plane. If you, as you said, dropped Jan at one level and got him back, he would be at the same level.

I'm a good 90% sure on this. Hope it helps!

When you drop an NPC from the party, all they do is stand there--they don't practice swordsmanship or lockpicking, they just stand. Similarly, when you pick them back up into your party, they will not have gained a single point of EXP, no matter how long it's been. Imoen is the only plot-related exception, and even with her, the increase is barely noticeable.

The version of NPC X (let's say it's Jan) that you can summon from the Pocket Plane is always exactly the same--same equipment, same known spells, same EXP (I think they're all 2.5 million).

This version is wholly separate from the version that you could recruit in SoA. Theoretically, you could take Jan up to 4 million in SoA, drop him right before the final battle, then go to the Pocket Plane and summon him for re-recruitment . . . and he's lost all the stuff you gave him to wear/carry, and he's at only 2.5 million EXP.

And the word "epitome" does not mean what you think it means.

I desired a brief summary of the ToB leveling process, and I indeed got it..Thank you, Six.

Well, THAT'S a pain the butt! The word means "paragon" and "summary" at the same time? Might as well be its own dang antonym.

*goes off to smack English upside the head*
