I was wondering if any of you have read the book "Icewind Dale" if so, could you tell me if it was good and if it follows more or less the same storyline as the game? (it probably does but im curious anyways ^^)

Maybe you answered this but does it take place before IWD the game?

I thought that the game took place around 900-1100 years. Correct me though.

There is a character (human) in the book named Wulfgar. The game takes place about 80 years before he is being born.

The book takes place perhaps 10 years before the times of trouble (wild guess). And the BG-saga begins 20 years after the trouble has ended

If you intend to buy the Icewind dale trilogy I recomend you get the Dark Elf trilogy first which is the prequel both are excellent books and well worth the investment
