At Magness' site, click on the thumbnail to enlarge.
Then RIGHT click on the portrait(s), select save as, then select .bmp format. That should give you a properly formatted .bmp version to use in the game.

First of all, make sure you saved the portraits (as .bmp files) to the "Portraits" folder. When you create your characters, simply select the "Custom" option when the portrait page comes up. Selecting Custom will open a window with all of your custom portraits listed - select the L size portrait in the upper part of that window and the S size portrait in the lower part. It should also give you a preview of the selected portraits.
If you already have a character created, there should be an option to customize your characters appearance on the character inventory page. [ 06-28-2003, 05:45 AM: Message edited by: Micah Foehammer ]

The portraits-folder goes into the IWD2 main folder, default: c:\blackisle\iwd2\portraits. If you've already got it in the right place, and you're sure that your portraits are bitmaps, another reason for them not to show up could be that the filenames are too long. Portrait files with names of more than eight characters won't be recognized by the game.

Micah, what you've described isn't true for all browsers. I use Opera and this the above option is not available. Snowking, an alternative for converting JPG's to BMP's is plain and simple MS Paint. (As described on my FAQs page.) For that matter, all of your questions (so far) are answered on my FAQs page. Thank you for visiting my site. |

There's one possibility... If you're running IWD2 in Windowed mode and are moving the BMP files into the portraits directory while you have IWD2 already running, you won't see the files. Apparantly, IWD2 builds a list of BMP files based on what is in the portraits directory at the moment that the game program is started.
If you used the exact filenames that I used for my portraits, only switching from *.jpg to *.bmp, there should not be any filename problems. All of the filenames that I've used are completely IWD2 legit. |

Okay, I'm going to email you a pair of IWD2 .bmp files, that I KNOW work. If those don't show up, I am going to have to think about some alternative solutions.
Just saw Magness' post - that's an excellent idea. Try that first and let me know if you still have any trouble. Magness, Yep, you're right about the browser options. [ 06-28-2003, 12:53 PM: Message edited by: Micah Foehammer ]
