Minor spoiler

We're at the floor beneath PRIDE,LOVE & FEAR etc. The first couple of Dopeganglers was quite easy to eliminate But the there is a place where not just the durlag fake, but also another "famous-durlag-type-of-person" dude showed up, it all ended with the transformation to dopeganglers, and in the transformation, they released 3 area of effect spells. Those spells killed my army of minions, and they did some severe damage to us too. We died really quick and cannot figureout anyeay to beat them..

our chars:
Druid level 9, ac -2, 3+ scimitar
Minsc level 8, ac -8, 5+ scimitar
Thief level 9, ac +2, dagger of venom
Xan level 8

Those spells are cast by script, not AI. That means they always land where your party would *normally* be standing. Head towards the throne and you should be safe. Of course those doppelgangers arent a pushover anyway, but you should be able to do it if you evade those spells.

erm if i remember rightly i did those doppels at about lvl 5 for the party when i first played bg, the trick with most encounters is to put a fast character in to talk whilst the rest of the party blocks strategic exits and are ready to intercede, the fast char is normally the tank (for me) so can take the hits and then run off if in trouble anyway, even a low level party doing that should have success

It has been my experience just to hang out near the throne and everything turns out okay as long as you do not rush...rushing leads to being mobbed by three dopplegangers instead of one at a time...also remember the most important three words in Bauldr's Gate...FIREBALL FIREBALL FIREBALL

I used Mr. Baggins tactic - Fireball. (Or was it cloudkill?) Then I hacked.

The cheesy way to do it is to send one character with the boots of speed in to pick up the helm (that's the trigger for the script), then run out of the room and close the door. Hang around outside until the cloudkills wear off, then go in and kill any of the dops who survived their own spells.

yep billy that tactic is spot on, and the one i used as the spells in the room kill two of the dopplegangers straight off (but you get no exp for them and they arent that hard anyway)
