Just to give you people an idea of the sort of gamer that I am (and more imporrtantly to find out your tastes too), I thought I'd like to see what games people play (my list'd be too long even before I got past Heroquest, Advanced Heroquest, WFRP, aetc and on to the computer ones). So I thought I'd settle for top three quotes (although just below them would come a few Majesty and WW ones).

1: "Hello my friend, stay a while and listen." (Deckard Cain from Diablo although the D2 version "Stay a while and listen" is also quite good. I'm just a major Sean Connery fan at heart).

2: "Butt kicking for goodness!" (Minsc from BG, in BG2 Minsc got some very camp lines and wasn't half as much fun(In fact the BG2 version of "Butt kicking"etc isn't pronounced with the same degree of sincere enthusiasm because the "Butt" is drawn out into a 2Buurhhut" for comic effect and generally ruins the line .Who couldn't love that big dumb clod "Go for the eyes Boo, go for the eyes Russk!" (BTW is it coincidental that there's a Russian town called Minsk? Black Isle say that he's from a staff role playing group but I have my suspicions)).

3: "Now where would I put this?" (Almost any Rogue from Diablo whose pack is full and is commanded to pick up something else.I know that it's rediculously suggestive but it still stands just about above the rest).

Alright then, let's see yours...

I'm a Minsc "Butt kicking for goodness" fan myself.

I also posted this next one under the "Giggles" string here. But it cracks me up in this game whenever a single, lonely highland raider says to my group of six, "You're outnumbered!"

See if you can guess what game these quotes are from:

"Another visitor, stay awhile, stay forever!"
"Hey, don't shoot me!"
"You are standing at the end of a road before a small brick building."

These are from OLD games so don't be surprised if you don't have a clue. (And none are from RPGs. The first is from a puzzle, platform type game, the second is from a combat, action type game, and the last is from an adventure game.)

The third one sounds like Twin Kingdom Valley (an old, BBC Model B computer game that came on a tape and was almost purely text based) but I could be wrong, concerning the others I haven't got a clue (actually I think TKV always mentioned compass points but I could be wrong).

Too funny! My youngest just scored a copy of Diablo I and I was sitting at my computer (like I sit anywhere else!) when I heard your Deckard Cain quote (Hello, my friend, stay a while and listen). I know that from somewhere, I pondered. And my WHAT A LOVELY ACCENT! Mostly I remember my characters from MM with their pat replies to certain situations. One of my favorites was "It's just a Scratch" usually said as the character laying dying on the ground and followed by "I need help" or something like that. "This is useless". Unfortunately, I have blocked most of them out. "Don't get me killed." One female voice was so obnoxious I never got off the first island with her; I restarted the game.

Answers:

1) Impossible Mission
2) Beachhead 2
3) The Original Adventure

They were pretty tough, but for some reason, these are the ones that became stuck in my head all these years. I remember them, exactly word for word.

Hello,

What a cool thread idea, here goes for me!

1. "And yet another does not return."

From the Evil Wizard, Dungeons of Daggorath (the oldest CPRG around, circa 1982, Dyna Micro). This game is till my fav of all time, and a fan page does exist. I'm one of about 30-40 people who have admitted they finished it!

2. "How could I defeat such a creature?"

From Golgo 13, a very old NES game, and an anime too I believe. Right at the end of the game when he is facing the last boss, a huge brain. Talk about an original game, you had a character who smoked, kicked serious butt, and even had *ahem* personal relations with ladies in the game, on the NES of all systems! Of course, this is before they enforced all the Nintendo mickey mouse rules that prevented games from even talking about things like drinking and sex (anyone remember their version of The Bard's Tale that replaced Wine with "grape juice"? They should have all been shot for ruining such a classic RPG). Well, what more can you expect from a company that has sold out their inginuity for something as lame as "Pokemon"? May the old NES rest in peace....Nintendo has forever lost their edge.

3. "Same to you, pal!"

From the cab driver in Spaceship Warlock, one of my truly favourite games of all time. Just about anything from that game is funny. You have to curse at him to get him to say this since he normally says "Where to Bub?".

So many more quotes, most of which I can't remember, but thanks for a trip down memory lane!

The only two phrases that have really stuck with me are "Go for the Eyes Boo! Go for the eyes!" From hearing my boyfriend play BG1 for endless hours and days even.

The other, possibly because it was so hilarious, was from a MM7 character when he identified worthless items: "Pure Garbage!"
(pronounced something like Pyua Ga'bage!)

; )

to lily the ranger! I beleive i know the voice you mentioned, because when I played it, I had this female who was so "whiney" it was driving me nuts. I didn't think I could stand to listen to it through the entire game, so I also restarted it. I had only played a matter of a couple hours.what a whiner she was! Barbara
