Help installing, heh heh...

Hi,
I bought Baldur's Gate about three years ago. I played it and enjoyed it a lot. I don't remember having any trouble installing the game or any other problems with the game itself, however now that I'm trying to reinstall it, I'm not able to. Or, if I am able to "install" it, whenever I try to play it a message pops up saying "An Assertion failed in D:\Dev\chitin\ChDimm.ccp at line number 581... Programmer says: Unable to open BIF: data\SFXSound.bif"
So I tried uninstalling the game, but I was unable to because "The log file 'C:\Program Files\Black Isle\ Baldur's Gate\Uninst.isu' is not valid or the data has been corrupted. Uninstallation will not continue."
I've tried downloading three (I think three) or so patches, but nothing seems to fix it. I'm thoroughly stumped. If you can help at all, I'd be ever so appreciative.

I suggest a complete uninstall,manually delete the game then delete from the registry, and then try again. Chitin errors can be fixed by downloading WinBiff (I will give you an address if you want) but I wouldn't recommend it because it is very tedious and takes hours.

Thanks lol... do you know of any other ways to possibly fix whatever's wrong? Because that sounds very tedious, and I, being low tech as I am, would have a heck of a time doing that all.

Basically the easiest way to fix it is reinstall. Try that and if it doesn't work then tell me and I will think of an alternative.

It sounds a little like a file is corrupted - I think there's a list of error messages and their explanations somewhere on the BioWare site.
