So, what authors consistently hit your funny-bone?
My top two, in no particular order, are Terry Pratchett (fantasy - primarily the Discworld series) and P.G. Wodehouse (fiction - Jeeves & Wooster, Blandings Castle, Psmith, and assorted stand-alone novels).

Honestly I must say I have not come across much humourous novels.
Farley Mowat - The Boat That wouldn't Float; - Only book I have ever read that caused me to laugh out loud over and over. Owls in the Family; - A good book with light humor The Dog Who Wouldn't Be; - A good book with light humor My favorite book by this author however is not a comedy but a war story "And No Birds Sang" - Undeniably the best war memoir written by a Canadian who served in the Second World War. The book chronicles Mowats experiences in 1943 as a participant in the invasion of Sicily and Italy, and in classic Mowat style captures both the stark reality and lighter side of his experiences. [ 07-08-2004, 02:29 PM: Message edited by: pritchke ] |

Read all of his Discworld. The books involving the witches (Granny Weatherwax, Nanny Ogg, Magrat Garlick, and lately Agnes/Perdita) are great, especially if you've read a bit of Shakespeare. My personal favourites, though, are the Night Watch novels. Nobby Nobbs is the Man, err, ape, err...
"Guards, Guards" and "Jingo" satirize fantasy conventions and political/nationalistic ideas. Absolutely fabulous. The Dread Portal password sequence in Guards, Guards is itself worth the price of the book.
