So, what authors consistently hit your funny-bone?

My top two, in no particular order, are Terry Pratchett (fantasy - primarily the Discworld series) and P.G. Wodehouse (fiction - Jeeves & Wooster, Blandings Castle, Psmith, and assorted stand-alone novels).

Terry Pratchett is a good author, I like his novel 'Mort'.

Honestly I must say I have not come across much humourous novels.

Farley Mowat -
The Boat That wouldn't Float; - Only book I have ever read that caused me to laugh out loud over and over.
Owls in the Family; - A good book with light humor
The Dog Who Wouldn't Be; - A good book with light humor

My favorite book by this author however is not a comedy but a war story

"And No Birds Sang" - Undeniably the best war memoir written by a Canadian who served in the Second World War. The book chronicles Mowats experiences in 1943 as a participant in the invasion of Sicily and Italy, and in classic Mowat style captures both the stark reality and lighter side of his experiences.

Read all of his Discworld. The books involving the witches (Granny Weatherwax, Nanny Ogg, Magrat Garlick, and lately Agnes/Perdita) are great, especially if you've read a bit of Shakespeare. My personal favourites, though, are the Night Watch novels. Nobby Nobbs is the Man, err, ape, err...

"Guards, Guards" and "Jingo" satirize fantasy conventions and political/nationalistic ideas. Absolutely fabulous.

The Dread Portal password sequence in Guards, Guards is itself worth the price of the book.
