The intro to this sounds familiar...
Wouldn't it be nice if you could have some predefined (or user defined) conditions that a level or realm could have that would modify the game (combat would be different, spells would act differently, movement and directions could all be different), sounds cool... but what do I mean??? I mean that you could have an underwater adventure where fire spells don't work, combat conditions are such that you are penalized to attack, and if you can't breathe water...You die! OR, you could have a different set of conditions for the elemental plane of fire (for example) and of course that changes the spell use, your ability to simply survive the conditions (like breathing and not spontaniously combusting) andyour directions (on your compass, if shown) would be magma, smoke, radiance, and ash! (straight outta the planescape campaign sourcebook). By this same type of rule application, I'm guessing you could do "Ramdom Magic zones" and/or Wild magic.
