Okay, guys. This is the thread for Q&A on the things in Wizardry 7 that just didn't make sense!! Any answers anyone can produce here will be greatly appreciated.
I'll start: 1) What was the &?$@#!%?? Lodestone for??? 2) Where did the Fool's Map lead to? 3) If the Fool's Map was referring to the Greater Wilds, what did you do at the "X"? I used every item I had there, but to no avail! 4) Was there ANY clue at all in the game to the effect that one had to use the Legend map on the Gaelin stone in the Hall of Gorrors? Did everyone have to call the Help Line or get the strategy guide to figure that one out? 5) Why does Vi Domina ask "Did you find a ship" when you had to have found the ship to have the Ring of the Globe to get the Astral Dominae? Did anyone answer in the negative, and why? 6) Did anyone actually see the "Devil Falls"? 7) What were the square blocks in the Lesser Wilds used for? They looked like the ones on the Mandolin Isles that teleport you to the Phoonzang statue, but I never could figure out what to do with them. If I think of more, I'll post more. Anyone with answers...or at least some similar questions? -Sazerac |

Saz,
You're hurting the ol noodle here, but I'll try to remember: 1. Beats me.....I dont think it had a use! 2. I heard it was just a bauble if you will, completely worthless and a wild goose chase. 3. I never read it! 4. I recall there being something about the "Gaelin Legend" somewhere... 5. I dont remember! 6. Only ones that I beat up. ![]() 7. Aghhhhhhhhhhh! I can't remember! I don't think I'm much help here...oh well. ![]() Scronan |

Saz, i don't know how you remembered all that stuff, unless you have been brushing up to prepare for the onslaught.
i've loaned out W&W. so i can't look up my stats or research problems. instead i'm gonna run through Wiz7 again (with only 2 fairies i'll try) and i'll probably have a ? or two along the way. it has been at least 5 years since i played it. don't tell me yet but i remember needing those damn terminal codes for the longest time. as for question #5: Vi was clearly confused about her disfunctional relationship with the DS. living under a thumb like that could rattle some steely wits. and the abuse, the way he blasted her at that first little get together...imagine how he must have treated her in private. so, while i can't say exactly what confused her about the ship; i can say let's give her a break sinse her life was so whacked. plus don't most women double check everything, and ask questions twice to make sure? i think that they do. |

In no particular order...
Oh, please yes! I'd LOVE to know what those blocks meant (#7). They seemed so purposefull, and so exciting the first time I encountered them. But all I could figure out was that if you ran around them a few times, you'd usually get a 2-headed lion random encounter. Not what I'd call a purpose! Fools Map: definitely a wild goosechase. Load Stone: I agree, bury them in the W&W sand piles ( Brilliant-LOL!) I think Vi was just chatty. Yes, there was a clue to use the ?Legend? map on the Gaelin Stone, I think it was in the text of the Legend map itself. What's a "Devil's Falls?" Missed that one. I want to add my own questions too, but am too brain dead to think of any right now. Oh, here's one. The images on the walls inside the museum in Sky City... where they clues to anything, or just window dressing? ------------------ JonII |

JonII: The images on the walls in the Halls of Preservation, IMO, were a "sneak preview" for Wizardry 8, which was being planned at the time of Wiz 7's release (then put on the back burner for 9 years)....THWACK, Sir-Tech! THWACK! THWACK!! There now.
A lot has changed since that time, but I have a feeling that they're keeping in line with what went on in Wiz 7. Those images were of the Higardi and their city in outer space. Something tells me we may run into Phoonzang (the statue guy) before it's all over... On Vi's question: it definitely is the toggle to the multiple end games, since if you answer "Yes", the game ends in the City of Sky, while if you lie and answer "No", the game ends in the Forbidden Zone in New City, with you leaguing with the Umpani and T'Rang. I just thought it would have been better to have had the option to NOT find the ship before you meet with Vi...to make it interesting. I mean, why lie to the girl? As Slug said, she'd been through a lot already...and she was Phoonzang's descendent and the rightful heir to the Astral Dominae. Oh, and "Devil Falls" was on the map that came with the game...it was in the extreme southeast corner of the Sea of Sorrows...only thing I ever found back there was a bunch of trees in the water. *sigh* Unless I missed something. -Sazerac |

I was bugged by those same questions for years. But I did get to ask one of the programmers about it on a different board and found some possible answers.
1. The Lodestone had NO use. It was indeed the joke that everyone thought it was, ie lodestone vs. loadstone. I asked about it several times and one of the programmers told me that she could find no reference to it in the source code (other than finding it, of course). 2. The Fools Map was a wild goose chase. 3. The X was a neat place for unlimited monsters. (Yes, I think there was a better place, but where else could you randomly find two godzilli?) If you walked around the X and then stepped into the center, you had another random encounter. Sometimes it was little stuff like crows, and sometimes it was godzilli. 4. I admit to having help on that one. After the fact, it made sense to me because of the Stone and it being the only map with holes in it. But I didn't catch on to it. 5. I agree that it is silly of her to ask if you found a ship, but she doesn't know that you had to find a ship to get to this point. She wasn't on the quest. And if you lie, you can choose to follow with either the Umpani or the T'Rang. I wonder how you will start with Wiz 8 that way? (Personally, I often find it better to start from scratch.) 6. Devils Falls were a place that was supposed to be in the game, but got cut out. I don't remember if it was a time factor or a space factor. The Red Mountains was another area that got dropped. 7. That one I never did figure out. I forgot to ask about that because I was SSSOOOO disappointed about the lodestone. I was SURE that there had to be a use for it. Knarfling ------------------ Only two of my personalites have delusions, but one of them is paranoid and the other is out to get him. |

Is THAT what they're saying? I never could make it out! "Arms of the Rock" is what it always sounded like to me.
