I just got Morrowind and basically I'm just wandering around confused, killing stuff and doing little quests. I don't know where to go and how to get there. The interface is very odd and I don't know how to do anything. Does this game get better?

If you're aimlesly wondering around, and kill people or creatures, you're basically doing nothing. Go to Balmora first, and sign up with a few guilds. They'll send you on quests, so you'll have at least a goal.

One word of advice: talk!

Talk to everyone. That is the way to find out everything you want to know.

Talk to everybody: talk is cheap and can hint you to quests or quest givers ("latest rumors", "somebody in particular")
Also travel to Balmora or Ald ruhn (avoid Vivec for now): those are big cities with guilds and great houses. Join the guilds you think most suit your character, and maybe a great house. The topic is "join ###### guild/house".
You can join any guild regardless of previous memberships, but you can join only one house, so choose wisely.
Both guilds and houses will give you little errands to run, so that you can level up a bit and get some money in exchange. They also offer good services (training, spells, traders), some of which are strictly members only.

If you have trouble with the interface or the game, just ask and we will be happy to answer.

OK, I'm starting to enjoy myself now. I'm running around gathering mushrooms and trapping souls.

I'm currently a level 3 Knight, who basically left the first town straight away and stumbled all the way to Balmora, which I thought was quite interesting because everyone is telling me to go there. I'm trying to figure out a few things:

1. How do you level up? Is it when 10 of your stats have gone up a level, or what?

2. I've captured one or two souls, what should I do with them?

3. I'm very tempted to take these soul gems on the Balmore Mage Guild Hall desk while I'm doing the duties there. Wise decision?

4. Why do I move so slowly? I have a Speed of about 35, and I move at a snail's pace.

5. Why can't I cast the Summon Skeleton spell? I have it memorised and everything, but the chance of casting is 0%.

EDIT: 6. Where do I go to repair my sword? I can't find ANYWHERE?
OK, that's it for now, thanks guys!

1. Level up happens when you reach ten skill advances in your major/minor skills. Skill advances in the misc skills do not count. After the tenth skill increase you get a message that you should meditate (i.e. rest). After sleeping you will attain your next level.

2. Souls can be used for recharging magical items or creating magical items. You can create magical items yourself or use an enchanter to do it for you. The enchanter will ask (high) prices but it will ensure a 100% succes rate. Equip the filled soul gem to do either.

3. You mean steal? Naughty I heard that the person you steal them from won't sell them anymore. If you buy them they will restock, if you steal them thay won't. I stole them.

4. Athletics skill, encumbrance and speed. These factors determine your movement rate (I think). Perhaps you should sell some stuff, or store it somewhere. The safest place to store items (in my humble experience) is on the street. Preferably next to some type of transport. If you have Tribunal installed you can put a note on the map where you left you loot.

5. Do you have enough magicka? If so, your alteration (? the magic skill associated with the spell) may be too low.

6. Use armorers hammers (equip) or ask an armorer to repair them for you. There is one on the west side of Balmora (southwest). Doing it yourself has the advantage of training your armorer skill.

1. How do you level up? Is it when 10 of your stats have gone up a level, or what?

Just keep doing your things, at first you'll be leveling up the quickest way through gaining skillpoints in speed and athletics, it's always like that, unless you never run from A to B. But indeed, when you've gathered 10 points from either your major or minor skills, you'll go up one level.

2. I've captured one or two souls, what should I do with them?

Keep them for now, until you have enough money to take them to an enchanter who can, for a price, enchant one of your weapons, or armour. Or wait until your own enchantmentskills are high enough to try doing it yourself. The third option is to sell them. Depending on what kind of creature's soul you trapped, they are worth quite a bit.

3. I'm very tempted to take these soul gems on the Balmore Mage Guild Hall desk while I'm doing the duties there. Wise decision?

Yes, especially the grand soulgem with the Winged Twilight is worth a truckload of money. But whatever you do, do not try to let the enchanter from who you stole it enchant one of your items with it. She'll know, and attack you right away.

4. Why do I move so slowly? I have a Speed of about 35, and I move at a snail's pace.

Carrying a little too much weight perhaps ? Or maybe you got in a fight with a greater bonelord or something and he casted a spell on you ? In that case go to the nearest temple, pay a little fee, and receive a blessing that takes away any disseases or spells.

5. Why can't I cast the Summon Skeleton spell? I have it memorised and everything, but the chance of casting is 0%.

Then your skill in that particular category is not yet high enough. Keep practicing, or find a trainer in one of the mages guilds.

EDIT: 6. Where do I go to repair my sword? I can't find ANYWHERE?
OK, that's it for now, thanks guys!

Any armourer will repair your stuff, or someone in the fighters guild, if you are a member of that. You could also start learning it yourself. You just need to get the proper tools first. You can usually buy those at the armourer's as well.

something I might add, explore every nook and cranny. don't be afraid to enter any dungeon. and put your map on top ( by clicking on the X on upper right on your map ) so that you know where to go.
