(OOC: Sorry to all of the mods for starting another RP when I'm already DM'ing the "Night" RP, but I just had a nice idea....

I won't be assuming control of any character for this RP, I'll just control NPC's, you can be ANY class that you want, no ubering will be allowed.

The following things that should be noted are:

In addition to the normal races such as Elves, Humans and Dwarves, I will also be allowing slightly unusual player character races, such as Faeries or perhaps Dryads, maybe even Sahuagin.

Not anything TOO evil that everyone hates though, like Drow or Mind Flayers, nothing too powerful either.

Magic isn't a very strong thing, all creatures have at least some basic resistance to it and the majority of all people can cast at least a few basic cantrips.

The world itself will not be described, mainly because you'll have to explore it... The reason follows beyond the end of this OOC message.)

The world of Ayten, a relatively peaceful Earth-like world populated by humans, dwarves, elves, faeries, halflings and other fantastic creatures.

Not long ago a strange portal was discovered leading to an unkown world and a war was waged over it. In the end the kingdom of Khast conquered it and the surrounding area, a few teams were sent through to explore, none returned. A larger group was then sent through and a camp was established just beyond the portal, nothing living has been spotted so far except for a bit of the local wildlife.

Certainly nothing to explain the dissapearance of a company of fifty humans. Now the kingdom of Khast, not wanting to lose any more explorers, has decided to hire adventurers to explore this new world for them, reasoning that they should have a higher chance of surviving anything hostile than most people, also, if they die the Khastians won't have lost anyone.

YOU are someone who's been hired, you've just stepped through the portal which was located on an otherwise unremarkable flat plain. On the other side is a lush jungle, a large part of it has been cleared to make space for a camp, soldiers are seen everywhere, standing guard and continually expanding the camp.

New smells assault your nostrils, strange sounds your ears. The sky is a sapphire blue instead of the purple skies of your home. This place promises to be full of surprises and new discoveries, the king has promised a hundred thousand gold pieces to the first to find, and make peaceful contact with, the rulers of this place.

Behind you more adventurers exit the portal, equally surprised at the place, will you travel with them, share the rewards of what is found? Or will you explore alone, at greater danger, but also without having to share?

You'll have to venture off soon, in the direction that has been dubbed North in this new place mountains can be seen. To the West the sun, larger and more red than that of your home, is setting, you can see nothing more than endless jungle there. East can be seen the edge of the jungle, plains beyond. South can be seen a lake within the jungle, the guards say that they have seen movement there, the locals perhaps?

Who are you? What will you do? Where will you go?

The officer in charge of the camp walks over to the newly arrived group(Which includes you) and looks you over, "You're the new explorers, eh?" He says, "You don't look like much, but I suppose that you'll have to do, let me lay down a couple of the rules for you, first of all, any magical or technological items that you find here are to be turned in to me, you will be rewarded in gold for everything that you find, if you wish to keep anything you'll have to pay us for it.
Second, you don't steal from me or any of the others here, if you do we'll have you shipped right back through the portal for a quick execution.
Thirdly, and lastly, if you get lost in the jungle, don't expect anyone to come looking for you, we haven't got enough men for it, yet." The officer stops speaking and seems to be thinking for a moment, then says, "If you can find the time, head northeast from here, the last group of explorers went that way and they never returned, if you can find them, alive or dead, we'll repay you."

OOC: Hmmm, I feel like incorporating the shortest lived RP character into my post.

IC: After listening intently to the man's instructions, the large, but rather clumsy and thick-headed warrior bustled off in whichever direction took his fancy.
While walking he tripped on a twig and cracked his head open on a rock, dying straight away.
(OOC: that's not all though) Luckily the agile elf behind the huge fighter was more aware of his surroundings, and carefully stepped over the bulky man's body, after pilfering what he needed, thinking to himself all the while 'those foolish humans, they have about as much skill and intelligence as a chunk of wood.'

(OOC: Care to tell me what direction you're heading in Talthyr? Just a compass direction. And perhaps tell us a bit more about your character?)

Ah yes, sorry, I normally remember to put it in the first post.

Name- Aluthiel (I wish I had more accents to use.)
Gender- Male
Race- Elf
Class- Assassin
Proficiencies- Katana ++, Longsword ++ Long Bow +
Physical description- Quite tall and slender, yet sinewy, very agile and stealthy, pale skin and longish black hair.
Personality- Devious and cunning, intelligent, purposeful and decisive.

EDIT: Oh yeah, compass, um, I'll say South East, then I'll decide whether to go to the lake or the plains.

OOC: I'm playing

My character is a grey elf, or a faerie to be more precise. He didn't join for money, nor for a chance to feel the wind blowing through his pale blond hair, but rather to ensure that this new world will take to the path of goodness, after which he plans to return to his House.

Varjacoa (Or Varja for short ) is a mage wearing a pure white wool tunic with intricate gold embroidery. Over that he wears a purple cloak, matching his violet eyes, set with a silver pin marking him as a member of the House Noble. He is armed with a single long dagger, which has a permanent, pale green glow about it.

IC:
"Calimë Ambar, utúlien," the elf spoke as he stepped through the portal. For it was a bright new world indeed, and he would have to see to it it was kept that way.
Varjacoa would have preferred to remain in his home city and study the great tomes of magic assembled there, but a new world needed guiding and protection before mortals turned it into another place of evil and ugliness.
Luckily, it seemed the people would not fight until this expedition was over, and he would have to find a way to convince the mortals to leave this world in peace. He signed up for the mission.

EDIT: Oh, yes. Naturally, Varja's magic is limited on this new world. He just doesn't know it yet

Aluthiel was moving through the dense jungle when he came upon a small clearing with a clear pond, next to the pond is a creature which he had never seen before, it looked like very large six-legged insect with a hard carapace and a two-pronged stinger.

It hadn't noticed him, but it looked peaceful, or at least very calm... Perhaps it was dead? It was lying in a patch of sun allowed through by a break in the trees.

Looking down warily on the creature, tensed to lash out if necessary.
Bending closer, he studied it closely, and after no movement, bent close and moved out to poke it with a nearby stick.
He could be richly rewarded for this...

The creature was dead, dry and, strangely enough, hollow, the stick poked a hole in it's dead shell. Inside, Aluthiel could see something that shone as it caught a single ray of light.

He had heard from the guards about movement in the jungle. If these were locals, he would have to find them, and make sure they were not creatures of malice. After all, that was what he had come here to do.

Varja moved south, alone, for surely he had no need of these other, weaker beings. He tried to pick the easiest path through the jungle, not really caring where it went.
