I'm interested in your opinion. I saw Morrowind III in the store today and it looked really interesting. I've only played BG & IWD and was wondering how it compared to these games. If I enjoyed them will I like Morrowind?

I havent played the game yet, (need new graphics card) but morrowind is an entirely different type of game that the d&d rpgs....
morrowind is VERY open and you can do anything you want, but the game play might feel unfamiliar to you because you havent played any game loke it yet...
read some of the posts and treahd on this forum and you might get an idea of whether its right for you...

Morrowind is a game unto itself, well the Elder Scrolls are.
Morrowind is the third in the triology so far.

It gives much more freedom to move from quest to quest or just search and discover than BG1 or BG2 or Icewind dale ever thought of.
And I have played all three and did enjoy them. But Morrowind is hands down the supreme ruler of RPG's.

BUT, do be careful that your comupter meets and hopefully exceeds the minimum requirements for loading and playing the game.

There are a few who have problems and mostly it is because either thier VIA chipset in the mother board causes a bit of trouble (well known in the computer world) or the installed Video card will not display 32 bit color.

Actually Morrowind its more of a playground than a game...

Games like Baldurs Gate and Icewind Dale are great books that use pictures and sounds to immerse you in a world, all this while giving you some rules to let you make lots of right things and few mistakes over a path that will take you to the unavoidable end of a great story.

Morrowind on the other hand have the pictures, sounds and rules, but the path to follow blur itself into a world with more wider scope of actions with fewer right things to do and a lot of mistakes to make, all this leading you to an uncertain end in an uncertain story.

Its not easy, neither is fair to compare both, beyond the fact of them sharing the term "RPG" they are two different experiences, and in my opinion both worth the time and money of people looking to have few extra lifetimes.

Another good factor to take in consideration before picking Morrowind of the shelve its your computer system, in my opinion if you don't meet the recommended requirements of the label you should get another game while you 'wait' for upgrading your computer.

for a person that play and liked the titles you post a few good choices on the top of my head now are;

-Planescape Torment, by the same guys that made the Baldurs Gate series, this will be my top choice in your case.

-Gothic, its a good introduction for first person, action oriented RPG's.

-Dungeon Siege, keep in mind the term "action" because its the main drive in this one.

And adding to Yakk's post... Wizardry 8 & Arcanum. Arcanum is 3rd person isometric like BG, but less defined in its path. Wizardry 8 is first person, but party based and probably more defined in its path.

Since I've got to wait until tech support opens tomorrow, I can tell you that the the first 60-120 seconds of this game are absolutely incredible.

(I have a couple of incompatibility issues that related to my sound card not being DirectX 8.1 compatible. It's been replaced, but I've got to over it with tech support because I also have a driver problem with WINDVD.)

Oh yes. And Vesselle loves this game so far. And I've never known Vesselle to be wrong.

"-Planescape Torment, by the same guys that made the Baldurs Gate series, this will be my top choice in your case."

A misconception. Bioware was the developer of the BG series. BIS made Torment with the Infinity engine. BIS also helped produce the BG games, and was the publisher of them as a part of Interplay.

As to the main subject. Yack expressed it best. MW is a diffrent style than BG or Torment. Doesn't mean its better or worse. Just dpends on your personal tastes in games.

Grrrr, not another f***en great game that hates the VIA chipset. I am gettin seriously sick of this - this vile putrescence of a computer goes in the bin when I get back from holidays - it's time for an upgrade.

Do not be overly worried, Davros.

I'm running the game and I have CUV4X-E board which has the via chipset. Just make sure you update VIA AGP/4in1 driver for your motherboard and you should be ok.

I have a LeadTek video card and on their website, there are instuctions on what to do if you have problems with this chipset.

I imagine most video cards makers have similar faqs.
