I've noticed that I can get higher barter prices from people with 50-70 disposition than I can from people with 70-100 disposition. Why is that?

dunno, you can also sell higher to people with 70-100 too.

either way, the only person you should sell to is the creeper in caldera.

If you are in a guild/house it can be lower. I believe race also plays a part.

I meant that I went to a merchant, was going to sell him about 700g worth of items, and he would have paid me about 546g. I bribed him about 30 pts of disposition up, and the same things were now worth around 400g.

Cool, I got a new picture/avatar thing.

AFAIK the important number when bartering is disposition+mercantile skill. I generally get the best prices when that number is ~110, but YMMV.

Mercantile is fairly broken as a skill.

LS058, disposition changes things ALOT. they like you more, so they expect you to sell them things for less.

at the same time, they like you more, so they will sell you things cheaper as well.

as i said, the creeper in caldera always gives you the full value of the items you sell him, so he's your best bet.

I'm not often in Caldera, and I've got over 30K worth of items after completing the second oracle quest for the imperial cult. Creeper's got 4000g. I don't really want to be buying and selling things to him for days, when I already have 30K of gold (septims), and when I can hide things at my hideout in Seyda Neen and sell it at my leisure, or sell them for a lesser price.

Hmmm...
It might be useful to sell a 100-disposition person my more valuable items so I can get them back later at a low price, if I ever need them.

nope, creeper has 5000, you should be in caldera often to sell things, as it offers rapid transfers.

selling things to normal merchants allows them to equip them which makes it a ho to get them back. also, if you sell them something for cheap, but YOU lower the bid price, they will sell it to you for more... you'll lose money. everyone uses the creeper, you might as well too... but its okay to store stuff in your hideout as well, i do that too until i recall to the creeper to sell him everything.

I've only been there twice, so I didn't really know how much he has. Why does he have that 1500g drink that only lowers attributes? And why do bad-effect-only potions have value?

It's kind of fun to sell clothes and armor to merchants since they immediately equip it. Sell them cheap equipment of different types to make them look strange.

yeah, but don't sell them good stuff because they equip it and wont sell it back to you unless you sell them something better

i cant tell you how funny it is to barter with the guy in the fighters guild in balmora now that he's dressed like one of the assasins since i sold him a full suit of their armor.
