I currently have a lawful good cleric of high level (dont remember what level right now). I am wanting to make it a dual class character by becoming a fighter. The game lets me do the switch, puts her experience at 0, lets me pick skills (abilities) and then off we go. However, I cannot use any of my fighters' weapons. I can still only use cleric weapons but no cleric spells, even after advancing to level 2 as a fighter. Anyone know why? I keep checking the rules and cant figure out why I cant use fighters weapons.
help. |

Well, before you can use your Cleric spells again, you must become one level higher with the Fighter before you can use both classes skills again. You still must use the weapons that a Cleric is restricted to. Just imagine if you could Dual class a Thief to a Fighter and be able to use Full Plate Mail while running around and backstabbing everything. It's the same aspect.

You can't use Cleric spells because your fighter level has to surpass that of your current Cleric level first, I believe. Then your cleric spells will become active. I would think you could use fighter weapons though, you gain all the benifits of the new class, I thought...

I thought (apparently incorrectly) that when you switched, that you would not use any of the 1st classes skills but instead would have to start using the new classes skills just at first level ability. So that would rule out the thief scenario. If what you said is the case, then would you be able to cast magic user spells if switching to a mage from say a fighter?

As long as your new class is lower level as your old class, it will be like you only have the new Class.
If you where a fighter and dual to mage, then You are only a level 1 mage with lot of health. If you are a mage and dual to fighter, you are a level 1 fighter. There is also another thing, when you dual class, you keep the restriction to both class. A mage dual classing to fighter might be able to wear armor, but he won't be able to cast spells while wearing it. A Druid who dual class to fighter still won't be able to use weapons not allowed to a druid, like axe. It is the same thing for Cleric.

certain classes have restrictions that can be overcome, and others that cannot. All kit restrictions always apply.
Fighters- no overlapping restrictions Paladins-cannot dual Monks-cannot dual Barbarians-cannot dual Rangers- individual kit restrictions only Clerics- can NEVER use non-bludgeoning weapons. all other restrictions can be overcome. Druids- can NEVER use non-Druid weapons. armor restriction can be overcome. Thief- can NEVER use thieving skills while wearing armor greater than studded leather, save elven chain. weapon restrictions can be overcome. Bard- cannot dual Wizard- can NEVER cast spells using armor, except elven chain/mage robes. weapon restrictions can be overcome. Sorcerer- cannot dual You could also have found this out by reading the rulebook. ![]()

Thanks Gothrog, you told me what I needed to know with the clerics not being able to EVER use non-bludgeoning weapons (even when going dual class as a fighter). That explains it. I never did see that in the rules. I must have missed that. Thanx to you all.
