Just read this on Wired News, nasty toolbar out there for IE from Xupiter can litterly take over your machine:

Sneaky Toolbar Hijacks Browsers (IT/IS Important 2:00 a.m. PDT)

Internet users are mystified by a tricky browser add-on that installs
itself without permission and defies attempts to remove it. Some are
calling the program the most insidious thing on the Web. By Michelle
Delio.

You do know there are certain people here just itching to go out and visit this site just because their curiosity is almost killing them? There's something about "DON'T DO THIS!" that makes it really tempting to do it anyways.
Thanks for the warning, though.

Never actualy been to the site, but the word xupiter turns up a fair bitin advertsing crap. Spyware merchants I think, although this sounds more serious than spyware.

*strains ..... holding shaking hand back*

must ..... not ...... push ..... the ..... big ...... red ...... button ....

seriously, everyone should run Ad Aware periodicaly and have a well confiured firewall to reduce the risk of these things.

NOTE: I said reduce not eliminate. All defenses are defeatable somehow.

unfortunately ad-aware doesnt catch it. Additionaly , when it installs it write protects itself so that you cant delete it. Trying to will get you the "cannot delete running programs" error message.

Reminds me of CommonName toolbar.

OK, are you up to some registry hacking? You need to remove the reg entry that loads the .dll into memory, reboot, then delete the thing. You should try msconfig before going directly into the registry though.

While we're mentioning it .... stay away from CommonName and Gator as well!!!
