A couple of thief questions:

1) To steal from a merchant does the thief have to be the one initiating the dialog with the merchant? (or can anyone start the dialog?)

2) Do you get different items off a merchant when you pickpocket them? (i.e. items other than the ones they're selling)

3) How does the game determine whether or not you get caught stealing? Does the number of items stolen have anything to do with it?

Thanks all.

Answers for ur questions, 1. yes, if u want to steal items off a merchant u got to have ur thief talking to him, and then u can steal items off him. 2.The items u pickpocket off merchants r different from what they sell. 3.If u got caught stealing, then it is that ur pickpocket skill is too low, u can drink potions of master thievery to get ur pickpocket skill up. But be careful, dont get ur pickpocket up to 280(max) because u get caught evrytime u steal(A BUG???)
And WELCOME TO THE IRONWORK!!!

Jon, I think you are wrong on a number of points, though I'm not sure. Perhaps someone else could confirm either my or Jon's thoughts?
Here are my answers:
1. No, your thief doesn't have to be the one who initiates the conversation, you can just click on his portrait while in the shop then the steal icon and he should be able to steal, as long as he's nearby.
2. The thief should be able to steal exactly the same items as are in the merchants buy screen.
3. I don't think the number of items counts, but a high Pickpocket score and possibly a high dex will help you get a favourable outcome. No matter what these scores are, however, there should be a chance that you fail and a chance you succeed, albeit a small one.
Beware, many shopkeepers don't want to buy stolen goods, so no stealing then selling then stealing again.

JI is correct actually. Allow me to rephrase his statements more clearly.

1) Yes. If you use somebody else, like Minsc, then the computer will use Minsc's Pickpocketing skill which is 0%. Not an ideal situation.

2) Yes. The best example of this is Ribald. If you pickpocket him, you get a Ring of Regeneration. Note that pickpocketing and stealing are different things. You steal what the merchant sells, you pickpocket what the merchant has in his personal inventory.

3) It is all based on percentages. The ideal percentage for your Pickpocketing skill is 200%. Higher value items incur penalties to your skill. Higher level characters and merchants incur penalties too.

I created a character named Lobo, and went on a solo rampage. By the end of the game, I had less than -9000 Karma, earned the titles, "Demon Spawn", "Child Killer", "Berserker", etc... ...

I gave Cassidy a heart attack, sold Sulik into slavery, shot my dog dead, etc... turned every town into a ghost town( after royally sc***ing them up) except the home town( due to game coding...), assassinated all the crime bosses in New Reno, caused the extinction of the sentient Deathclaws, etc... ...

The turning point came when I got the Advanced Power Armour ASAP. I literally killed the kids in The Den with my bare fists. I wiped out the entire Enclave, to heck with sneaking around, I BLEW my way around, tossing plasma grenades, executing extreme fists of fury( one-hit kill, I do not care whether you have power armour and/or 200+HP) to the chest with my "Slayer" perk, etc... Oh, and did I mention I have 100% critical hits with the "Sniper" perk and 10 Luck? I had 10 Strength, Agility, Perception and Luck. Toughness was 8 and Charisma was 1( due to advanced armour implants).

Lobo kicked a**, a lot of a**.

ADD] Oh, and scoring a critical hit on a person in New Reno with a flamethrower is always fun. Watching them running around screaming while being burnt alive. Ahhhh... the memories.

There is no option to continue wandering. As to how your money should be spent, I leave that up to you.
