You will need to be more specific. Which parts of the Tactics Mod are you having difficulty with?

Ah yes, the Improved Illyich Mod. Made way too hard. But then, after what I've read, it is only made for fun, and have been a challenge for every single BG2-expert. Even our own Dundee found it too ridicoulus hard.

Anyways, I've only made past it once, and that was with a Monk. I gave him much Dexterity and Constitution, so he would have much HP and a low AC. He was in Stealth-mode most of the time, and avoided most battles. So I have no good tips if you want to actually do the fights there - until I try more my only tip is: be a Rogue/Ranger/Monk, Hide in Shadows, and run!

Use Enrage and Draw Upon Holy Might (DUHM) prior to the fight to get a considerable combat boost (you only get DUHM if you're of good alignment). If DUHM is not available, Horror can also be used against them, works best if you let them turn visible first of course. If you're having trouble with Cone of Cold wands, remember that you can avoid the cone by running from it, if you're quick enough, it helps if you can somewhat foresee when he'll cast the spell. Thieves will always use their wands the first thing they do when they turn visible (and always freeze a few tenths of a seconds prior to using it as well). Don't know how you built your character but it should be able to take on at least one thief face to face per rest (use DUHM again before rest to heal) My recent Kensai could take on two thieves before rest on insane so I know it's possible on core. There are only 3 unavoidable thief encounters on the first level, one more if you want to kill Iliych. If you're worried about thieves attacking you after rest, just find a room you wont go into again, sleep, watch the thieves/dogs spawn and then rush to the door and shut it. Alternatively you could use an invisibility potion (the regular thieves normally carry 1-2, they will use them unless you kill them quickly though), you'll still be invisible when the thief pack spawns and you can sneak away from them.

All in all, DUHM is an extremely important ability for a solo fighter in Irenicus dungeon for many reasons so I would recommend being Lawful Good (would rule out a Berserker of course) to get 2 of them.

Ah, the almighty Improved Ilyich... Fun fun fun!
For mazochists like Rataxes and I, that is.

This mod makes Jonnie's dungeon extremely non-trivial. Use your mind.
I found two things which makes it a lot easier - traps, and divide & conquer tactics.

Don't be a hero, here - Ilyich and Co. are at least 5 times more powerful than you. Then again, you're 5 times smarter than them, and you can open and close doors! Use this to your advantage.

Have fun - it is a satisfying victory, when achieved. Definitely worth all the frustration.

Dump the Illiych, but save the rest! They're such good and self-esteem rewarding mods, although a solo berserker might find himself in a bit of a bind...

Let us know man!

As Zuvio said, you shouldn't remove the whole MOD, just the Illyich. The Tactics-mod is very entertaining, so you shouldn't drop it just because you can't overcome the first thing it changes.

And because it opens in DOS, you can easily just drop to install the Illyich-part. I tell you, you really should.

Illyich is either lots of fun or well nigh impossible, depending on your class and skill level. I took him with a solo sorceror on insane. First fight was the hardest - no stoneskins means you are likely to get backstabbed and get chunked. But once that was done and I got a level, it wasnt incredibly tough.

The much hyped demon was a dissapointment though. Melfs Minute Machine Gun took him down in two rounds. The golem was tougher. And kamarazov or whatever shes called was the worst - she just woudnt die.
