Well this is really two questions I am asking:
Firstly, how big has your BG2 custom portraits folder grown. The second question springs from my answer: My own portraits folder has grown to the grand size of above 2700 files and it doesn't show any sign of stopping. When creating new characters it has become a royal pain to choose custom portraits because that list is so long. Especially if you, like me, have trouble deciding things. Therefore I have chosen that it's about time to make some kind of order in the mess that's my portraits folder. The obvious answer would be to divide them into genders (male, female, indeterminable sex) but that is hardly going to help much as even then the list would be too long to handle. What other criteria should I sort my portraits with I now ask you?

Classes, e.g thiefs, sorcerors, fighters. Coolfactor or quality and blondes/brunettes

Classes is a bit of a problem. While there are some who practically begs to be a paladin or thief for example the vast majority could be all sorts of characters.

What about race? naming: Elves, Drow, Orks, Demonic (Knights), Humans, Dwarfs, Haflings, Undeath ect.
Becase each race/specie has a different look (face structure, hair, skin, ears (elves)) Just a thought though. [ 02-25-2003, 04:47 PM: Message edited by: Annatar ]

Yes, that is a problem (both portrait management and female half-orcs).
The easiest solution is to assign portraits with ShadowKeeper (it is useful, in the end). Or keep all of them in another folder, and put one or two that you need in the Portraits.

The classification of gender (Male, Female, Androgynous, None) seems the easiest to make, followed by two categories for race: Tall (Human, Elf, In-between, Half-Orc, Undead) and Short (Beards, No Beards). The category of which class the person varies too much: Some portraits are instant giveaways as to what class they would be perfect for (the brawny Human Male wearing Plate armor and whacking a Skeleton with his 2-Handed Sword is definitely an Undead Hunter), while some completely defy categorization (the near-naked Human Female holding a a dagger as she poses seductively could be a Mage....or a Thief....or a Monk....or a Kensai....etc).
I have only ever seen one good picture of a Female Half-Orc. It was official art for either NWN or IWD, and I believe it was painted by Justin Sweet. MAN, did it suck. He face is all right and she looks burly enough, but I just don't see anyone standing in a snowdrift wearing a leather bikini. Sorry. It wouldn't be bad if the woman in the snow was furry or something, but not only was she not furry, she actually seems to shave her legs on a regular basis. And then goes & stands in the snow. Anyway, I think you can do a Google search or something and eventually find the original artwork, but I made what I think is a much better version by cropping out most of everything & playing with the color scheme--It's still not quite done, I should have accented her lower canines a bit more. Anyway, it's here: www.geocities.com/sixospades/mod/edna.htm

It's IWD2 art.
And yep, the body is exactly like I would imagine a female half-orc, but her outfit does look daft.
