I started a new game and made a party based on Wheel of Time characters.
The first thing I noticed was that there are a TON of characters in that series! Here's my party: Rand-- Human fighter to be dualled to mage later (I would like to dual to wild mage, but oh well) Profs in long sword and long bow. Perrin-- Ranger, profs in axe, hammer and long bow. (I would have gone for the Beastmaster kit for summoning animals--wolves, but then can't use axes or hammers) Mat-- M/C Fighter/Thief: Gave him profs in bow and spear (sub for his spear-sword) Egwene-- Mage (will put some restrictions on spell usage--see below) Moraine-- Cleric (for healing abilities, and limited combat casting) Lan-- Kensai, profs in 2H sword (in books he doesn't wear armor and never uses ranged weaponry) --This is the party that left Emond's field in book one; I couldn't even add Nynaeve who catches up to them quickly. A few notes on some of my choices: I gave Mat the thief abilities since no one else would have them otherwise. I will only use his traps/locks and pickpocket skills--pickpockets as a stand in for his winning money from people at dice or cards, so I can only target people who might gamble with him--soldiers, inn guests, thieves, etc--but not storekeepers, innkeepers or high ranking officials. The magic systems of the books and the game are hard to reconcile. A few things I will do: 1) Aes Sedai cannot use damage spells against human enemies or beasts of nature, only against orc-types (Trollocs), and Undead (Myrdraal, Draghkar, Darkhounds). Egwene is under no such restriction but usually follows it. 2) No use of any charm-like spells (too much like Compulsion and outlawed); Horror and emotion spells are okay (like Moraine scaring off the Whitecloaks at Baerlon) 3) No summoning spells (there are none in Wheel of Time) exception: Perrin could use animal summoning in wilderness areas (calling the wolves). 4) Other spells I will evaluate case by case (the sequencer spells can only be used by characters strong enough to handle multiple flows) Silence will be a major weapon vs. enemy casters. I just wish that vocalize was not automatic and it was a battle of strength of castings. --above restrictions would not apply to evil WoT characters--Forsaken use Compulsion, summon Trollocs and Mydraal, and can cast against anyone they please. A WoT mod would be an interesting concept...

It's a series of books by Robert Jordan.
It's currently at Book 10 and counting. For anyone out there who's read the books; I had mixed feeling about book 10; it was a good read, but definitely disappointing in terms of how little progress was made in moving the story forward. The reason that I was inspired to try this party was not the latest book, but because after I read the new one, I started re-reading the series and found that I had forgotten how good the first few books were!

Just started reading the series myself (am on Book 4 now). I like your party, but would have enjoyed seeing Thom's character in there also (love a good bard).

I read eight of the books, but I've gotten rather frustrated with Jordan's characterization. Things seemed to be moving very slowly, and every character seemed to have the same personality, so I gave up. The first few books were much better.

A most excellent series of books! I do hope Jordan manages to finish them before he dies, though... But I'm not even sure if he ever intends for them to end. After all, the Wheel has no ending, no beginning, but just keeps a rollin' along...
A suggestion for Mat. Scrap the spear proficiency, and put it in staff. He was a major quarterstaff buff, and the staff-spear +3 would fill in for that naginata-with-a-fancy-name that he finds. Other than that, I think you got it licked.
