Okay as I mentioned in another thread. I am going to later dual my theif into a fighter. Now lets say that I have one * in the profincey slot of longsword right. When I dual to a fighter and I put 2 starts into longsword would I have three in total when my fighter level is one level higher than my thiefs?

Thank you in advance

Hmm, this can be a confusing area. If you have one * in longswords as a thief, and then dual to a fighter, you will not carry over your thief's weapon proficiencies until your fighter level has surpassed the level of thief at which you dualled at. Once you surpass that level, you will regain your thieving abilities as well as any weapon proficiencies you had. However, if you decided to put 2 *'s in longsword whilst your thief class was inactive as a fighter, and then you regain your thieving abilities, the * in longswords that you had as a thief will not be added to the stars you have gained in that weapon as a fighter. Hope that makes sense. Basically, you do carry proficiencies over when you dual, but they will not cumulate with your fighters proficiencies with any single weapon.

sadly, those points do not stack. you will have the 2 points your fighter had put in.

As far as I understand it, these points WILL stack. I don't know if it's just SoA or SoA with ToB, but you should have three stars in longswords when you get your fighter class back.

The only way you won't get your points back is if you put stars in a weapon your first class can use, but not your second. (Made that mistake with a kensai/druid and three misplaced stars in axes. )

You are partially right Pirengle.

They don't really stack. Rather they are superimposed.

Say, you have four dots in hammers as a fighter, then dual to cleric and put one dot in hammers. When your fighter levels reappear, you will have four dots in hammers NOT five.

Thus the best way to build a multiclass is to forget about your old weapon skills and learn something new when you dual. Let's for example take a berserker -> Cleric. He starts his life with all his points put into hammers and dual-wielding. He will keep on developing those skills exclusively until he reaches level 9. Then when he duals he will forget about his hammer, start wearing a shield and put his points into maces, flails, staves and slings.

When his fighter class reappears it is time to take some of those new weapon skills into grand-mastery.
