In the svirfneblin's fair city, where the girls aren't so pretty, there's a shopkeeper who claims that he lost his dear boy.

Now, enough of plagiarizing, bastardizing, and utterly destroying old lyrics to songs that were bad to begin with. Does this child actually exist, or is it another one of those "unfinished" quests? I've slain every lousy beholders, illithid, kua-toan, drow, and yes, deep gnome that I could find, though never all in the same game, and never found this rugrat. I just finished entering a long list of search queries revolving around the words "gnome" and "child" into out wonderful Ironworks search engine, here. Alas, it's all been to no avail. So, some wonderful samaritan who, like me, has little else to do but play this game over and over until they know every last detail and plotline and secret door and romanceable PC's underwear color please set my mind at ease and answer me once and for all whether this little half-sized nuisance does or does not exist? PLEASE?

oh yeah, he does exist; and if you indeed do slain every killable being in the underdark...you've probably killed him over and over without knowing it

Dundee what I meant was that if one doesn't know who he is, everytime he/she goes through the game probably will kill him once

But you didn't mention that you had killed a demon near the fair city of the svirfneblin. IIRC you have to fight a demon of some variety to complete the rescue of fair child.

Unless you have no hand control, then you shouldn't have killed the child.

Spoilers ahoy

The child is in the tank/prison cell around the centre of underdark. You should have twisted the portholes and seen chracters being released. Most talk to you and the child was trapped by drow for annoying them. This isn't part of the main story so if you have killed him then it isn't a problem. Hopefully this helps!

Okay, that's why I missed him. I twisted one portal on that imprisonment sphere, killed a githyanki, and then promptly dismissed it as having no further import.

You don't need to kill the demon to free the boy. You can get credit for it if you free him before you meet the rest of the smurfs, or afterwards.

Oh yes, and be careful if you keep twisting the various portals. Some of them are more dangerous than a githyanki...
