"Chunkification" is when a character is dealt a lot more damage than would kill them, and they turn into a bunch of flying pieces. A "chunkified" person can't be revived or resurrected.

I think gore has no effect other than the little red splotch that appears on a character when they take direct damage from a weapon, and when a person is "chunkified", if little red dots follow the pieces. Turning gore off doesn't prevent "chunkification". It just makes it look slightly more unrealistic than it already is.

I don't know the answer to the question, but I would guess that it doesn't.

Death Ward protects against all forms of body-destroying death (chunkification, Disintegrate, freezing death), as far as I know. I don't believe it protects against Petrification->shatter death, however.

Though it doesn't affect whether or not a character can be raised from the dead, the Gore setting does turn "chunkification" on and off. Try it yourself: Gore on, the thief at the beginning of BG2 chunks, no loot; Gore off, the thief drops dead and leaves a composite longbow and arrows.

Well, when Pontifex killed Mazzy and Ano in my "NRP project" game, they were both under Death Ward and it DIDN'T help.

Dragons, especially Weimer Dragons, just love casting Remove Magic.

If you are pointing to my post Six, then I must reply that they still had their Death Ward on.
His remove magic came very early in the fight and Mazzy and Ano were far away then.

I just tested again this theory against Ponti. One of my party members had Death Ward + SI:abj and Ponti hit her twice in time stop 54 + 68 damage but she wasnt chunkified. (she had 105 HP)

A couple of rounds later he attacked another fighter and he and a sand golem hit him first for 70 + 24 damage and then for another 24 damage and he was chunkified and also had Death Ward on.
